If you are an estate sale junkie like I am, you understand it’s not just about finding a treasure, or a great deal on furniture — it’s about the PEOPLE who lived with the treasure, or the furniture. This is one of those.

Annie Laurie Thompson was born in Charleston. She’s the TRUE Southern Charm – unlike the new reality TV show I’ve seen. A true Southern Lady. In 1954 she was in the Ms. Charleston Pageant. She has lineage in the DAR, she attended College of Charleston. Around this same time as Annie was tootling around Charleston, Wiliam L. Ahls had been born in Iowa, attended Perdue and getting his masters in aeronautical engineering. He was a smart puppy for sure being in Mensa, having an AF career and eventually ending up at Oak Ridge National Laboratories in Knoxville. When he and Annie met fireworks ensued. Can you hear my ‘dreamy sigh’ going off here? Well – it did. She was busy raising the kids and fulfilling her duties as an officers wife. When he finally retired, they put their belongings in storage and traveled the world. How wonderful is that. They’ve had a very good life these two. They are both still living, and have moved into assisted living. A very good life indeed. It somewhat reminds me of the movie and book ‘The Notebook’. Another dreamy sigh just escaped my being. ::::smiling::::
One quick side note — in the photograph where Annie has somewhat of a bouffant hair-do, on the back of the photograph which she was sending to her husband she says “Honey, this is the picture I intended to send to you two months ago, but it isn’t very good and I weighted 136 in it. Also my eye is out of focus. But it’s all my own hair (before I had it cut). Burn it if you like.”
Ok — now for the sale part.
